All life is built from cells and sorted into a vast tree of related groups. This unit explores what makes something living, how scientists classify life using kingdoms, domains and the binomial naming system, and how dichotomous keys identify organisms. It then turns to cell theory, microscopes, the structure of plant and animal cells, and how specialised cells build up into tissues, organs and organ systems, alongside the classification knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Eleven core lessons cover the syllabus.
