True or False? Fix the false ones
Circle T or F for each statement. If the statement is false, rewrite it correctly on the line below.
Plants need water, minerals and light to survive and grow.
Correct it:
Roots are mainly linked to light access and gas exchange in plants.
Correct it:
If a plant loses its roots, only the root area is affected, the rest of the plant keeps working normally.
Correct it:
Leaves are linked to light access and gas exchange with the environment.

Real-world context
Australia's wheat belt produces millions of tonnes of grain each year. Farmers monitor soil moisture, mineral levels and sunlight carefully because all three inputs are needed for healthy crop growth, not just one. In a recent season, a region received good rainfall but crops in several paddocks still grew poorly. When farmers investigated, they found the soil lacked key mineral ions. They applied a mineral supplement, and later crops recovered.
(a) The crops had enough water and light, but still grew poorly. Using lesson concepts, explain why having only two of the three key inputs is not enough for healthy plant growth.
(b) A farmer says: "Roots just hold the plant in the ground." Using what you learned in this lesson, explain what role roots actually play in obtaining plant inputs.
1. Describe the role of each plant structure listed below in supporting the plant's input needs. Use structure → role language in your answers.
