The formula for the area of a triangle is:
$A = \frac{1}{2} \times b \times h$
Where $b$ is the base (any side you choose) and $h$ is the perpendicular height measured from that base to the opposite corner.

If you know the area and one dimension of a rectangle, you can find the other by rearranging the formula:
$A = l \times w \quad \Rightarrow \quad l = \frac{A}{w} \quad \text{or} \quad w = \frac{A}{l}$
Similarly for triangles, if you know the area and the base, you can find the height:
$A = \frac{1}{2} \times b \times h \quad \Rightarrow \quad h = \frac{2A}{b} \quad \text{or} \quad b = \frac{2A}{h}$
Notice: For triangles, you must multiply the area by 2 first before dividing by the base. This is a common source of errors — students forget to undo the $\frac{1}{2}$!
